You’re Confirmed for Handwriting 101!

Don’t forget to add Jaime@missjaimeot.com to your contacts. Otherwise, your important emails may go to Spamland! If you have any difficulties, email customerservice@missjaimeot.com

Starting tomorrow, you will receive an email each day for a few days, and we’ll be talking about the components that make up the task of handwriting. You’ll be learning what to look for AND what to do.

JUST A NOTE: To make this email series the best it can be, I’ve provided a lot of visuals and graphics. If you are unable to see the images—this is due to the security settings in your email. (Click for more info…)

You’ll be learning how to save time while helping build motor memory for our kiddos by teaching letter formations in groups.

Make sure you stick around until the end because I’ll be giving you the inside scoopall the tricks I’ve learned in the last 20 years as a school-based OT practitioner!

Here are the 6 Components of Handwriting

1) Motor Memory—making a letter from memory without a visual
2) Orientation—writing a letter without reversing it
3) Placement and spatial awareness—writing the letter correctly on the line and organizing material on a page
4) Size—making letters small, tall or fall
5) Start & Sequence—the “spot” where a letter starts & the sequence of strokes to finish a letter
6) Control—forming the letter neatly without shaky lines, gaps, or “extended lines”

(These components are pertinent no matter what program you use: Handwriting Without Tears, Zaner Bloser, D’Nealian, Fundations, TV Teacher, Size Matters, etc.)

With each lesson, we’ll dive deeper into the components to give YOU the tools to actively help the child in your life learn how to write. We’ll learn how children develop automaticity when they learn the letters in groups based on formation.

It all starts tomorrow!
