Sensory Processing is the way the body receives, interprets, and responds to stimuli in the environment. Sensory experiences help children to understand their environment and their bodies. Then sensory experiences are upsetting to a child, they may react by withdrawing or avoiding the sensation. Sensory Processing is an "umbrella term", meaning that there are a lot of different types of Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD).
